Cabins for two in Gatlinburg and the Smokies

One-bedroom cabins are the smallest and most in-demand rentals in the Smokies. Here is how to get a good one at a fair price.

For couples, Gatlinburg is usually the right base: a cabin a few minutes above downtown means dinner without a long drive back. Wears Valley is the quieter alternative if you would rather cook in and watch the sunset.

What makes a good couples cabin

  • King bed and a bedroom that is not a loft open to the living room, if privacy matters to you.
  • Fireplace, gas or wood. Gas is easier; ask whether wood is supplied.
  • Private hot tub on the view side of the deck.
  • Short, paved driveway if you plan to go out at night.
  • No shared walls. Some "cabins" are units in a larger building.

The cheapest time for a couples trip

Average Gatlinburg cabin prices on Airbnb are lowest in February (about $177 a night) and January (about $194), against about $262 in December. A midweek February stay is the best-value couples trip in the Smokies.

When to book

Small cabins book out first in peak season. Plan on 60 to 90 days ahead for fall and the holidays and two to three weeks for winter.

Watch the fees on short stays

Cleaning fees are charged per stay, so they hit two-night trips hardest. Compare the full total for two nights against three; the third night sometimes costs less than you expect.
