A deck hot tub facing a layered ridge is the picture most people book a Smokies trip for. The two ways it goes wrong: the "view" is a gap in the trees, or the hot tub is not maintained. Both are avoidable.
Where the best views are
- Wears Valley ridges look across an open valley toward the main Smokies crest. Often the best view for the money. See Wears Valley cabins.
- The Ober Mountain side of Gatlinburg sits high above town with long views, but the roads are steep. See our driveway guide.
- Hills between Pigeon Forge and Sevierville often have views over the foothills rather than the high peaks, with easier access.

How to read the listing photos
- Look for a wide shot from the deck, not a zoomed-in sunset. Zoom hides trees and neighboring roofs.
- Check the season of the photos. Winter photos show views that summer leaves can block.
- Find the hot tub in context. Is it on the view deck, or on a lower porch facing the woods?
- Use the map. A cabin on a ridgeline with a clear downhill side usually has a real view; one in a hollow usually does not.
Questions to ask the host
- Is the view year-round or seasonal?
- How often is the hot tub drained and cleaned between guests?
- Is the hot tub covered by the roof or open to the sky?
- How steep is the driveway, and is four-wheel drive needed in winter?
When to book
View cabins are the first to go for fall color weekends. Local managers advise booking 60 to 90 days ahead for fall and holiday weeks.
